In a world where always-on instant media, entertainment based news outlets, and single-perspective history dominate – lessons of responsibility and unity get less and less attention.
StreetCents’ Youth Program is built on three, age-group specific pillar concepts: Accountability, Cohesion, and Efficacy; these sequential concepts are designed to nurture and empower future leaders.
Accountability: ages 8 - 12
Contrary to the actions of many leaders, accountability and authority go hand-in-hand. When a positive role model is absent, the media has an abundance of detrimental stereotypes and behaviors to impart to our youth. This pillar focuses on teaching children the importance of taking responsibility for - and learning from - their actions to prevent future poor decisions.
- Being the "Boss" of your actions
- No such thing as "Hard" ...just "New"
- The Power of GOOD Decisions
Cohesion: ages 13 - 17
In order to enact sustainable change, individuals must learn how to function within - or even lead - groups with fairness and respect. The goal for this age group is to build on the Accountability lessons and help teens identify positive resources for their success both inside and outside of their community. This session also introduces the concept of three-dimensional thinking and questioning the veracity of popular assertions.
- Generational Wealth/Community Investment
- Effectively interacting with Authority
- Media vs. Reality
Efficacy: ages 18 - 25
When pursuing higher education or entering the work force, the cultures encountered are often foreign to many youths from under-served communities. In addition to the "hard", technical skills of a chosen profession, equally important are one's "soft", interpersonal abilities as their career progresses. This final pillar takes the lessons from the previous two programs and ties in skills necessary to confidently enter the corporate workforce.

Chess & Chat
If you’re looking to master the game of chess by learning from world renown players, this is NOT – we repeat – NOT the workshop for you; but if you’re looking to teach your students the game and how its lessons of patience, calculation, and strategy can be applied to life this two-hour workshop is a perfect choice.
